Our take on Whistling Waters
The quota system gives each fishing day a defined objective, but it also makes the work cycle central to play. Steering, repairs, and equipment spending add management tasks while limiting the focus on broader exploration.
What is Whistling Waters?
Whistling Waters is a fishing game inspired by 1930s animation and set aboard a steamboat.
During each day, players catch fish to earn money and meet the boss’s quota. Steering the vessel requires attention to its direction and the condition of the hull. When damage occurs, repairs can use driftwood collected with a grapple or planks bought with money. At night, the catch is turned in and the quota is checked. Any remaining money can be spent on upgrades. Failing to reach the required quota results in dismissal. The game also includes rare fish and a hand-drawn rubber-hose visual style.
How Whistling Waters plays
- 01Daily Fishing Quota
- The day’s catch is turned in at night and assessed against the boss’s required amount.
- 02Steamboat Steering
- The vessel must be kept heading straight at intervals while navigating the waters.
- 03Hull Repairs
- Driftwood can be retrieved with a grapple, or planks can be purchased for repair work.
- 04Equipment Upgrades
- Money remaining after the nightly quota check can be used to improve gear.
- 05Rare Fish
- The fishing trips include rare catches in addition to the regular fish.
