Play it if you…

- Action players who want adjustable challenge across eight difficulty settings
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a solo-focused experience may hit the two-person cooperation structure immediately.
- Players wanting a calm, predictable campaign may bounce off the repeated monster fights and randomly generated runs.
- Players who prefer exploration or story progression over combat objectives may find the run structure narrow.
Our take on What the Fog
The bounce point arrives when cooperation becomes necessary rather than optional. Players who expect to carry a run alone may struggle once a partner's build, revival, Generator repairs, and exit timing all need coordination during active monster encounters.
What is What the Fog?
What the Fog is a two-player cooperative roguelite set inside a cursed board game.
Players choose Dwight, Claudette, or Feng Min, then combine upgrades into complementary loadouts while running, jumping, and shooting through monster swarms. Runs include collecting Bloodpoints, repairing Generators, activating their runes, defeating bosses, and opening exit doors. If one player dies, they can continue supporting the surviving partner until revival. Levels are randomly generated and become increasingly wild across repeated runs. Eight difficulty settings adjust the challenge. The game focuses on short, action-heavy sessions built around coordination, character abilities, platforming, enemy encounters, and escape objectives.
How What the Fog plays
- 01Two-player cooperation
- Partners coordinate upgrades and can assist one another after a death until revival.
- 02Randomized runs
- Each session moves through randomly generated levels that grow more dangerous.
- 03Character loadouts
- Three Dead by Daylight characters can be developed with upgrades that complement a partner's build.
- 04Eight difficulty settings
- Players can select from eight challenge levels.
- 05Generator objectives
- Runs require finding and repairing Generators, activating their runes, and unlocking exits.
What the Fog compared to similar games
Abyssus also combines multiplayer shooting with roguelite progression, but its description emphasizes tactical combat, hand-crafted levels, and weapon modification. What the Fog centers on two-player coordination, platforming, Generator repairs, exit unlocking, and character loadouts across randomly generated levels.
