Is Virtual Circuit Board worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Logic-circuit enthusiasts who want an open-ended construction sandbox
- Players with basic knowledge of logic gates and circuits who want to experiment
- Assembly programmers interested in connecting custom instructions to virtual hardware
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking guided progression may stop at the sandbox's lack of tutorials, levels, and challenges
- Beginners without basic logic-circuit or assembly knowledge may hit a wall when setting their own goals and building systems
- Players looking for a puzzle campaign with defined objectives may find the open-ended structure too unstructured
Our take on Virtual Circuit Board
The bounce point comes before the first project: there are no tutorials, levels, or challenges to establish a path. Users who need instruction in digital logic or assembly will need that knowledge before the drawing tools, custom instructions, and simulation modes become useful.
What is Virtual Circuit Board?
Virtual Circuit Board is a drawing-based sandbox for building and running digital logic circuits.
Players choose what to make; the game includes no tutorials, stages, or challenges. Its editor provides color-coded gates and traces, supports components with multiple inputs and outputs, and includes an Array tool for placing several traces together. In the assembly editor, players can create instructions and compile programs into Virtual Memory for circuit access.
Work is split between editing, where circuits and programs are changed, and simulation, where circuits run and assembly instructions can be observed. A tick-based engine passes signals from one component to another and can perform millions of updates in a second. Decoration layers replace components’ default colors, allowing state-responsive visuals such as buttons and labels.
How Virtual Circuit Board plays
- 01Custom assembly instructions
- Programs are assembled into Virtual Memory that can be accessed by the player’s circuits.
- 02Tick-based simulation
- Signals move between components one tick at a time, with simulation frequencies reaching up to millions of updates per second.
- 03Circuit drawing tools
- Color-coded gates and traces support multiple inputs and outputs, while the Array tool can draw several traces together.
- 04Separate work modes
- Editing changes circuits and assembly code, while simulation runs the circuit and displays executed assembly instructions.
- 05Circuit decoration layers
- Additional drawing layers can change component colors to create visual elements such as buttons and labels that respond to component states.
Virtual Circuit Board compared to similar games
Virtual Circuit Board provides an open-ended digital-logic sandbox with custom assembly instructions, circuit drawing, and simulation, while SpaceChem centers on constructing factories that transform raw materials into chemical products. SpaceChem offers a design-based puzzle structure, whereas Virtual Circuit Board leaves construction goals to the player.
