Is Veterum worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Strategy players who want turn-based battles with morale, fatigue, facing, and line-of-sight considerations
- RPG fans who prefer open-world quests, recruitable races, equipment, and character development
- Players seeking variable campaigns with adjustable difficulty and custom mission creation
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking fast real-time combat may find the turn-based structure too deliberate
- Players wanting a tightly fixed campaign may find randomized quests, encounters, and city goods less predictable
- Players looking for a primarily story-driven RPG may find the emphasis on army management and battlefield tactics too demanding
Our take on Veterum
The broad tactical model trades immediate pacing for battlefield detail: morale, fatigue, facing, visibility, weather, terrain changes, and prebattle preparations all add decisions before an outcome is settled.
What is Veterum?
Veterum is a turn-based tactical strategy game set across an open world.
Players lead a remaining Gatekeeper force, enlist humans, dwarves, elvers, and turans, undertake quests, collect artifacts, and develop troops through gear, attributes, and abilities. Combat considers morale, exhaustion, unit orientation, visibility, light levels, weather, and changing ground conditions. Troops may construct barricades, excavate trenches, freeze waterways, fell trees, and create fires when facing creatures of the night. Single-use scrolls can modify battle conditions beforehand. Each campaign generates quests, chance encounters, urban merchandise, and other content. Players can modify difficulty, accuracy, health, and prizes. Mission and map editors allow custom scenarios to be shared.
How Veterum plays
- 01Terrain Manipulation
- Battlefield actions include building barricades, digging ditches, freezing rivers, cutting trees, and lighting areas.
- 02Unit Development
- Soldiers can receive rare artifacts, improved statistics, and new active or passive abilities.
- 03Prebattle Scrolls
- Single-use scrolls can create rain, poison opponents, or construct a catapult before combat begins.
- 04Randomized Campaign Elements
- Quests, encounters, city merchandise, and other content vary between playthroughs.
- 05Custom Mission Editor
- Players can make missions and share them with other players.
