Our take on VERSUS: The Elite Trials
Rather than presenting its science-fiction conflict through visual combat, this RPG makes political choice the main structure. The protagonist can infiltrate or join the ruling group, while superpower theft, memory travel, romance, and planet creation add unusual branches to a text-only format.
What is VERSUS: The Elite Trials?
This 140,000-word interactive novel follows a prisoner on the planet Versus, where thirteen prisoners form the Elite Courte and decide who enters deadly gladiatorial battles.
A god planning revolution recruits the protagonist, whose abilities include stealing superpowers and memories. Choices determine whether the protagonist infiltrates the ruling group, joins it, or works against its control. The story includes time and space travel, conflicts among the gods, a player-created planet and culture, and a mystery involving the home planet Prisca. Romance is available with ten characters, while returning figures such as Lady Venuma, Grog, and Breeze appear alongside new alien characters. The game is entirely text-based, with no graphics or sound effects, and supports male, female, and non-binary protagonists.
