Our take on Varion
The ricochet rule gives arena positioning a central role, but it limits straightforward shooting: direct hits only stun. The reload system reinforces that trade-off by tying ammunition recovery to movement, leaving little room for a stationary approach.
What is Varion?
Varion is a top-down arcade brawler for 1 to 4 players, with local battles in procedurally generated arenas.
Shots that hit directly only stun opponents; defeating them requires bouncing shots off walls. Ammo is limited, and moving recharges it, so players must keep moving. A dash can dodge or return shots, while hazards and powerups add changing conditions to fights. Battle and Tournament modes include settings for adjusting match rules. Players can compete solo or in teams. A solo or cooperative Dungeon mode features challenges, exploration, loot, and waves of increasingly dangerous bots. Its dual-stick controls support quick movement and aiming, with combat centered on positioning and using the arena.
How Varion plays
- 01Ricochet combat
- Direct hits stun opponents, so players must use arena walls to land lethal shots.
- 02Movement-based reload
- Ammo replenishes while players move, making stationary play a poor fit for the combat system.
- 03Configurable matches
- Battle and Tournament modes let players adjust rules beyond the available presets.
- 04Dungeon mode
- Solo or cooperative runs combine exploration and loot with waves of bots that grow more dangerous.
