Our take on Vanguard Exiles
The game departs from auto-battlers that center on largely fixed conditions by making battlefield changes part of the match structure. Players must revisit card choices, Squad tactics, and responses to opponents as Zones introduce new modifiers and obstacles.
What is Vanguard Exiles?
Set in a dieselpunk world where magic and technology exist side by side, the game casts players as Generals directing Squads in competitive player-versus-player battles.
Each turn requires choosing and placing cards, combining effects within a Squad, activating Vanguard powers, handling changing Zone modifiers, and predicting the rival’s plans. Battlefields shift as new hazards and rule changes appear, prompting players to reconsider their approach during the match. Different Factions and Units create variation between contests, while the evolving arenas give encounters distinct tactical problems. Its setting centers on a worldwide catastrophe that altered political loyalties and left survivors fighting to recover territory. Success depends on making deliberate choices, preparing for later turns, and adjusting tactics as conditions develop.
