Our take on Underhero
The premise gives an underling a role usually held by a chosen hero, but combat is not conventional turn-based RPG play: attacks, parries, and evasion depend on timing. The store text also flags flashing imagery, a practical consideration alongside its emphasis on humor and adventure.
What is Underhero?
Underhero is a 2D side-scrolling RPG adventure with combat built around timing rather than taking turns.
Players evade attacks and time their own strikes or parries, with music-timed hits producing stronger attacks. The journey crosses the Chestnut Kingdom with Elizabeth IV and the Masked Kid, as an underling of the evil king takes the failed chosen hero’s place and sets out against the boss, Mr. Stitches. Enemies can be spoken to during battles for tips, jokes, and story details. The game includes exploration with hidden secrets, boss fights, pixel-art visuals, and an original soundtrack. Its story combines mystery, unusual characters, dialogue, and humor. Some moments include flashing imagery that may affect people with photosensitive epilepsy.
