Our take on Toru
The store presentation gives the story and character conflict notable space, but the concrete structure centers on combat: dodging projectiles, using nearby objects, handling changing platforms, and fighting a mini-boss at the end of each level.
What is Toru?
Toru combines platforming with bullet-hell combat.
Objects encountered during levels, including boxes, crystals, bombs, and enemies, can be used as weapons. Combat options include throwing objects, creating energy fields, deploying turrets, and detonating steam bombs against shadow monsters. Each level introduces new opponents and may alter its layout with moving platforms. A mini-boss appears at the end of every level, using traits associated with that level's enemy type while adding distinct abilities and arena behavior. Some encounters can include an Elite enemy and a special weapon, producing different combat behavior. The game also includes an automatic difficulty reduction, plus a story about stopping a Shadow Monster from destroying the Lantern that sustains a city.
