Our take on Tombeaux
The emphasis on historical research and environmental themes may suggest a broad educational game, but the actual experience is a 30–60 minute walking simulator with minimal controls and mechanics. Its scope is closer to a compact artistic work than an extended adventure.
What is Tombeaux?
Tombeaux offers a brief, first-person journey through a 3D setting informed by historical research.
Over several centuries of Midwestern U. S. history, it considers how human societies and natural surroundings shape one another. Exploration reveals unusual artifacts, places, and story elements, while the world changes as the player advances. Sparse controls and limited mechanics keep attention on narrative, mood, and the surrounding landscape rather than intricate interaction. The work addresses the urge to exert control, ecological awareness, and the effects of historical choices. This artistic, reflective experience takes about 30–60 minutes and is suitable for children and adults, whether they regularly play games or not. Dave Beck made it independently as a combined art, design, and research project.
