Our take on Tip Top
Rope bolts turn each ascent into a risk calculation: securing a section permits retries, but consumes stamina that could be spent climbing.
What is Tip Top?
Tip Top is a single-player climbing game with roguelike structure and procedurally generated routes.
The campaign sends climbers to locations around the world. Players move a character’s hands from hold to hold, managing a limited stamina supply to reach each peak. Running out of stamina or missing a hold causes a fall. Rope bolts provide a way to secure a climb and retry sections without dying, but clipping in uses energy. The central choice is how much risk to take: cautious climbing uses stamina on rope protection, while a faster approach leaves less room for mistakes. Routes are generated so that they do not repeat, making hand placement and resource management part of each ascent.
How Tip Top plays
- 01Rope protection
- Clipping into bolts lets players retry sections after a fall without facing permanent death.
- 02Stamina management
- Each ascent has a limited energy supply, which is also spent securing the rope.
- 03Generated routes
- The climbing paths are procedurally created and do not repeat.
