We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Platforming players who enjoy adapting their character's shape to terrain
- Players who prefer open-ended climbing challenges over a single prescribed solution
- Players seeking a demanding climb with optional restrictions on blocks and checkpoints
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players who want forgiving movement, since falls can happen during careful physics-based traversal
- Players looking for a short, low-pressure climb, since the game emphasizes a difficult ascent and includes a mode without checkpoints
- Players seeking a role-playing game or management simulator rather than platforming
Our take on Ocnus Theory
The defining mechanic is reshaping the climber by attaching and dropping objects, which also changes its physics for the ascent.
What is Ocnus Theory?
Ocnus Theory is a 3D platformer about climbing through a sandbox environment.
Pick up blocks and other objects, including fish and pumpkins, and attach them to the Ocnus to change its size, shape, and physics. Rearrange these objects to tackle different climbing challenges, while careful movement matters because a fall can cost progress. The world is divided into themed regions, and challenges can be approached in different ways. Checkpoints mark progress; harder difficulty settings restrict the blocks and checkpoints available, while Legendary Mode has no checkpoints. Beyond the main climb, the game includes unlockable micro-challenges and cosmetic colors and hats. Reaching the peak is tied to uncovering more about the Ocnus and the reason for its banishment.
How Ocnus Theory plays
- 01Object-based movement
- Attaching or removing objects changes the Ocnus's shape, size, and physics for different climbs.
- 02Restricted difficulty modes
- Harder settings limit available blocks and checkpoints, and Legendary Mode removes checkpoints.
- 03Separate micro-challenges
- Unlockable short challenges can be played outside the main climb.
- 04Unlockable cosmetics
- Colors and hats provide ways to change the Ocnus's appearance.
