Our take on Through the Woods
The focus on atmosphere, narration, and isolation leaves less room for varied gameplay systems. Light, darkness, sound, and the forest setting carry much of the experience, so the design gives up mechanical breadth in favor of a concentrated horror journey.
What is Through the Woods?
Through the Woods is a third-person horror adventure set in a forest on Norway’s western coast.
It follows a mother who enters the wilderness to search for her missing son while recounting the events surrounding his disappearance through reactive narration. The journey draws on Norse mythology, Norwegian folk tales, art, and nature. Exploration takes place in environments shaped by light and darkness, creating deceptive surroundings. Sound design is central to the experience, accompanying the protagonist through the forest. Players uncover dark stories from the past and present during a frightening journey focused on loneliness, loss, and the search for a child.
