Is Pulse worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Adventure players who want exploration built around listening rather than visual wayfinding
- Players drawn to unusual first-person presentation and transparent environments
- Story-focused players interested in ancestral paths, forest spirits, and a land affected by earthquakes
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players who depend on visual landmarks may struggle when Eva's surroundings must be interpreted through sound.
- Players seeking a conventional visual presentation may not connect with the transparent-world style.
- Players looking for a game centered on role-playing systems or party management may find the scope too focused on exploration.
Our take on Pulse
The bounce point arrives when navigation begins: visual landmarks cannot carry the experience because Eva senses the world through sound. Players who find audio-led orientation difficult may hit that wall before the earthquake mystery and ancestral paths become the focus.
What is Pulse?
Pulse is a first-person adventure about Eva, a girl who lost her sight and perceives her surroundings through sound.
Players guide her through a world shaken by earthquakes, following forbidden routes once used by her ancestors while investigating the land's concealed history. Forest spirits accompany Eva and help her find her way during exploration. The game presents handcrafted environments in a transparent visual style and includes a thematic soundtrack composed by Joel Corelitz of Waveplant Studios. Pulse is the completed form of a prototype created by Pixel Pi Games, which was an IGF finalist and received a Unity Award.
How Pulse plays
- 01Sound-led exploration
- Eva uses surrounding audio to orient herself while moving through the game world.
- 02Forest spirit guidance
- Spirits assist Eva as she explores and becomes lost in the environment.
- 03Forbidden routes
- The journey follows paths associated with Eva's ancestors and the area's concealed history.
- 04Thematic soundtrack
- Joel Corelitz of Waveplant Studios composed the game's music.
Pulse compared to similar games
Jusant centers on climbing tools, stamina management, and choosing routes up a tower, while Pulse makes sound-based navigation and investigation the core of its first-person adventure. Both involve environmental exploration, but their main movement systems differ.
