Our take on Thriving City: Song
The game ties city growth to a wide set of civic responsibilities, so decisions about production can come at a cost to residents. That trade-off gives governance weight, but it also means the city’s development cannot be separated from ongoing public needs.
What is Thriving City: Song?
Set in ancient China, this city-building simulation puts players in charge of a settlement during the Song Dynasty.
Story Mode follows historical events and emperor-issued tasks, with decisions that shape the city’s development. Players assign jobs, manage resources, place homes and production buildings, and provide food and other essentials. Governance also covers education, commerce, crime, disasters, disease, and defense against invasions. Entertainment venues and cultural events address residents’ leisure needs, while research and the Imperial Exam contribute income and reputation. Policies can support production but may also affect residents negatively. Adventure Mode offers a separate way to create a cityscape. The game supports cities with more than 2,000 citizens on screen at once.
