Our take on Kai Yuan
The historical setting receives strong emphasis, but the playable scope extends beyond historical reconstruction into finance, logistics, military administration, and palace construction. The result is a management game with historical framing rather than a narrowly focused history experience.
What is Kai Yuan?
Build cities in 7th- to 8th-century Tang Dynasty China while managing residents, jobs, trade, and municipal finances.
Coordinate goods between cities and regions through a transportation network, directing limited resources where they are needed. Raise an army while balancing military spending against the city budget, then appoint generals whose commands improve soldiers’ combat effectiveness. Major construction includes a renowned Tang palace requiring substantial labor and materials. The environment cycles between daytime and nighttime and changes seasons automatically, with an option to lock the season. Cities are based on real Tang Dynasty locations, and historical events such as the Kaiyuan Prosperity and the An Shi Rebellion occur during play.
