Our take on Three Fourths Home: Extended Edition
Rather than using exploration or combat as the main structure, this adventure makes an ongoing family phone call its central interaction. Driving becomes part of the conversation’s pacing, while the story’s direction changes through dialogue choices instead of conventional mission objectives.
What is Three Fourths Home: Extended Edition?
Three Fourths Home is a visual short story set during Kelly’s drive through rural Nebraska as a thunderstorm approaches.
A phone call with her mother develops into an extended conversation involving her parents and younger brother, covering disability, adulthood, and family obligation. Dialogue choices are central: the main game and epilogue contain nearly 800 distinct choices that alter the story’s tone. Driving also continues during the call; stopping causes time to slow considerably. The Extended Edition includes an expanded version of the original release, the 20–30 minute Minnesota-set epilogue Idling in the Rubble, four stories written by Kelly’s younger brother, a soundtrack radio, and photos from Kelly’s college photography project.
How Three Fourths Home: Extended Edition plays
- 01Branching dialogue
- Nearly 800 choices across the main story and epilogue shade the conversation according to play.
- 02Driving conversation
- Kelly must keep moving through the storm while speaking with her family, since stopping greatly slows time.
- 03Extended epilogue
- Idling in the Rubble follows a later conversation with Kelly’s mother at a snowy Minnesota bus stop and lasts 20–30 minutes.
- 04Additional content
- The edition includes four stories by Ben, a soundtrack radio, and photographs from Kelly’s college project.
