RacingIs The Slopes worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- VR players who want short downhill racing runs rather than vehicle driving.
- Skiing fans who prefer obstacle-dodging runs without cold-weather equipment or chairlifts.
- HTC Vive or Oculus Rift with Touch owners seeking a standing or room-scale game.
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players looking for varied events or gameplay modes beyond downhill obstacle runs may find the activity narrow.
- Repeated runs may feel similar for players who want substantial progression or changing objectives.
- Players seeking conventional controller-based skiing may not want head-tilt steering and ski-pole movement.
Our take on The Slopes
The VR control scheme makes body movement central to steering and speed, but it also ties play to compatible VR equipment and standing or room-scale space. The focus on downhill obstacle runs keeps the activity narrow rather than offering a broader skiing simulation.
What is The Slopes?
The Slopes is a downhill skiing game built for VR.
Race to the bottom of a mountain while dodging trees, fences, logs, rocks and poles, and collect coins along the way. Head tilts steer the skier, while movements with the ski poles add speed. The game supports standing and room-scale play, with compatibility for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift with Touch. Runs focus on descending the mountain and avoiding obstacles; collisions can slow progress and affect leaderboard chances. The setting offers mountain terrain without winter cold, chairlift queues or ski equipment. Coins are collected during each downhill run.
How The Slopes plays
- 01Head-Tilt Steering
- Tilt the head to guide the skier around trees, fences, logs, rocks and poles.
- 02Pole-Based Speed
- Use ski-pole movements to gain speed during a descent.
- 03VR Space Support
- Supports standing and room-scale play on HTC Vive and Oculus Rift with Touch.
- 04Coin Collection
- Coins appear along the downhill route as the skier races toward the bottom.
