SimulationIs The Rake worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Survival-horror players who want open-world creature hunting
- Small groups seeking 2-4-player online co-op campaigns
- Players who prefer optional, non-linear quests alongside exploration
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a tightly linear horror campaign may find the open-ended quest structure less suitable
- Those wanting fully enabled multiplayer equipment may be limited by the beta state and disabled drone and camera features
- Players looking for a game centered on puzzles or dialogue rather than combat and exploration
Our take on The Rake
The store presentation gives multiplayer equal prominence with the solo experience, but online play is marked as beta. It also notes that drones and cameras are unavailable in multiplayer, making the advertised equipment range broader for singleplayer than for co-op.
What is The Rake?
The Rake is an open-world survival horror game about hunting and killing the urban legend The Rake alone or in online groups of 2-4 players.
It includes two campaigns: Hells Valley National Park and a remake of the 2015 map. Players can explore locations containing lore and loot, follow an optional non-linear main quest, complete smaller objectives, or focus on hunting the creature. Equipment includes firearms, melee weapons, medical supplies, food, night vision, motion sensors, drones, cameras, weapon attachments, and deployable traps. A changing day and night cycle, weather effects, and more than 15 weather variants affect the world. Multiplayer includes co-op campaigns, main-quest support, health scaling, text and voice chat with text-to-speech, private lobbies, LAN play, and Steam invites.
