Is The One worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Open-world survival players who want gathering, crafting, and shelter construction
- Co-op groups who want to explore and interact with other survivors
- Action-adventure players who want zombies, wildlife, and rival survivors in the same setting
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a tightly directed campaign may find the open-world survival structure too diffuse
- Players who want quick, low-maintenance sessions may not suit the gathering, crafting, shelter-building, and base-upgrade cycle
- Players looking for a finished rather than evolving game may not want an Early Access title
- Players seeking a purely solo experience may not want group exploration and survivor interaction
Our take on The One
Its broad survival structure trades focused progression for several connected systems: exploration, resource collection, crafting, combat, shelter building, missions, and survivor interaction. That variety requires attention across multiple activities rather than concentrating on one compact gameplay loop.
What is The One?
Explore a post-apocalyptic world three years after the zombie apocalypse, alone or with a group.
Survival involves searching for food, water, materials, and other supplies, while cultivation provides another way to obtain resources. Combat includes zombies, wildlife, and rival survivors, with weapons that can be modified and upgraded. Players can search buildings, forests, and ruins, gather materials by chopping trees and mining, then craft tools, weapons, and equipment. Shelter construction includes building and improving a base for protection. Missions provide resources, blueprints, and other rewards. Interaction with survivors includes trading, alliances, and conflict with hostile factions. The game is presented as an Early Access title and is described as an evolving experience.
How The One plays
- 01Resource Gathering
- Food, water, materials, and other supplies can be scavenged, while some resources can also be cultivated.
- 02Shelter Construction
- A base can be built and upgraded to withstand zombie attacks and support the player and allies.
- 03Crafting System
- Collected materials can be turned into tools, weapons, and equipment.
- 04Weapon Modification
- Weapons can be changed and improved for combat.
- 05Survivor Interaction
- Other survivors can become trading partners, allies, or hostile factions.
- 06Mission Rewards
- Tasks award resources, blueprints, and other rewards.
The One compared to similar games
The One combines open-world exploration, resource gathering, crafting, shelter construction, weapon modification, and interaction with survivors. Mr. Prepper also focuses on survival crafting and shelter building, but its description centers on an underground shelter, preparation for nuclear war, and conflict with an authoritarian government rather than zombies, wildlife, and rival survivors in an open world.
