Our take on The Fox's Way Home
Instead of building its structure around exploration or combat, this adventure asks players to watch a ritual, remember its details, and judge whether each figure is genuine. Progress depends on correct identifications and lighting 8 lanterns.
What is The Fox's Way Home?
The game takes place between a hidden realm and the real world, where a fox shrine maiden performs rituals.
Players watch her dance carefully and memorize it. Apparitions called Mononoke may imitate her appearance and attempt to deceive them. Each ritual requires deciding whether the figure is the real shrine maiden or an impostor. A wrong choice causes the ritual to fail immediately. Correctly identifying a Mononoke banishes it and lights a lantern. Lighting all 8 lanterns allows the player to return to the original world. Exposed apparitions can be recorded in an encyclopedia, which players expand by repeating the rituals. The fox shrine maiden is voiced by Maaya Uchida.
