Play it if you…

- Players who like managing a crew and transporting resources between locations
- Fans of run-based games where permanent decisions can lead to exile deaths or failed journeys
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players who want forgiving decisions may hit a wall when fuel use and engine behavior make route planning punishing.
- Players seeking a run with no risk of losing crew may hit a wall when exiles can die or be left behind, and a crew of one ends the journey.
- Players who prefer resources to be shared automatically may find the required ship transport between sites cumbersome.
Our take on The Banished Vault
The likely bounce point is route planning: engines and fuel follow a punishing rocket equation, so players who do not want to calculate travel costs may stall before reaching the crew-management and outpost systems.
What is The Banished Vault?
The Banished Vault is a run-based strategy game about guiding a crew of exiles through interstellar travel.
Explore procedurally generated solar systems, harvest resources, and build outposts in orbit or on planetary surfaces. Starships must carry materials between locations because resources are not shared across the system. Plan routes around fuel and engine demands, hazards, space requirements, and access to resources. During hibernation between stars, develop the crew’s knowledge and abilities. Artifacts recovered during exploration unlock abilities and buildings, while dice challenges test exiles against hazards. Runs end after the Vault survives long enough to send its story home, or fail if the crew is reduced to one exile. Death and abandonment are possible along the way.
How The Banished Vault plays
- 01Local resource transport
- Ships must move harvested materials between sites before outposts can use them.
- 02Crew development
- Exiles gain knowledge and abilities during the periods of hibernation between stars.
- 03Artifact unlocks
- Recovered artifacts grant new crew abilities and buildings for later construction.
- 04Dice hazard challenges
- Exiles face dice-based tests when dealing with dangers in hostile systems.
- 05Procedural systems
- Generated solar systems use energy maps to show bodies and their challenges.
