Marco investigates Brave Wood Academy, a deserted school, after his friends Ralph and Natalia vanish.
At night, he must search the campus for 10 items while protecting both his health and his sanity. Medicine can restore either condition, while batteries and other equipment support his sources of light. Some encounters with the creatures exist only in Marco’s thoughts and affect his sanity; tangible attacks cause physical injury. The narrative examines rumors surrounding Crowder’s Buffers, the academy’s concealed past, and the circumstances behind its shutdown. It also presents a parallel version of history in which these monsters emerged following large-scale human deaths and claimed the areas where they appeared.
