Our take on Tale of Two Cranes
Its text-only format leaves out visual scenes and sound, keeping the experience centered on written choices and narrative. That makes it a poor match for players who want battles presented through graphics or audio rather than described in prose.
What is Tale of Two Cranes?
Tale of Two Cranes is a 750,000-word interactive historical fantasy novel set in a mythic version of ancient China after the Qin dynasty falls.
Play as a warrior bonded to a heavenly spirit, choose between rival factions, and use magic and political influence as the civil war unfolds. Choices include dealing with the Imperial court, negotiating with northern enemies, investigating conspiracies, and deciding whether to support or challenge the emperor. The story also follows the warrior’s rivalry with Chan Ming, who is bonded to another Crane spirit.
Character options include male, female, or nonbinary identities and several sexual orientations. Choose from four magical classes, pursue romance with one of six close allies or enter an arranged marriage, and develop an estate around different pursuits.
