We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Players who enjoy turn-based squad tactics and want battles built around action-point choices.
- Tactical RPG fans interested in managing cover, suppression, and morale rather than focusing on real-time combat.
- Players who prefer a campaign of combat missions and squad composition choices over a non-combat-centered RPG.
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players looking for real-time battles may find the turn-by-turn action-point structure too deliberate.
- Players seeking a broad mix of non-combat activities may find the combat-centered campaign narrow in scope.
- Players who want a large roster beyond the stated 12 character classes may find the class selection limited.
Our take on Strike Team Hydra
The shared action-point pool makes each turn a constrained set of choices: movement, attacks, and abilities compete for the same resource. That tactical focus leaves less room for uninterrupted action, since each move requires planning around what remains available in the turn.
What is Strike Team Hydra?
Strike Team Hydra is a turn-based tactical RPG centered on squad combat.
As commander aboard the warship HYDRA, players lead soldiers against the Sethari in ship-to-ship battles. Each movement, attack, or special ability uses action points, so turns involve choosing how to spend a limited pool. Soldiers can use barricades, barrels, force fields, or tachyon fields for cover, while suppressive fire can pin enemies in place. Morale affects both sides: battle conditions influence whether soldiers stay focused on the mission or turn toward self-preservation.
The campaign includes 28 firefights with varied objectives and boss battles. Players can build a team from 12 character classes, change squad members as the campaign progresses, and enlist heavy robots or other units for special missions. Another 20 combat missions provide additional battles.
