The game combines historical operations with alternate-history events, story scenes, full voice-over dialogue, and more than 60 minutes of cinematics. Battles include primary and secondary objectives, while units can be upgraded, assigned skills, and equipped for each operation and theatre. Awards grant access to headquarters abilities, and captured enemy units can be used in later battles. Ten unit classes are available at period-specific points in the campaign. Day and night changes, weather effects, and detailed 3D models accompany the military operations. The campaign also presents hypothetical outcomes for the Soviet world revolution.
