Our take on Step By Step
The social features receive prominent attention, but the central structure is a punishing climb without checkpoints. Falling can mean repeating earlier sections, so multiplayer does not change the game's reliance on repeated attempts and precision jumps.
What is Step By Step?
Step By Step is a platformer built around continuous movement.
Players adjust running speed, jump over obstacles, and use Powerwalls to launch from surfaces with extra momentum. Reaching higher parts of the map requires controlled jumps, while mistakes can send the character back down. The game has no checkpoints, but progress is saved instantly. Its difficulty rises as the climb continues, beginning with easier sections before introducing more punishing jumps. The game supports solo and online play, including friend spectating, player visibility controls, highlighted friend names, and character customization. Hand-drawn art, colorful animations, and visual effects accompany the climb. Players can also find others through the game's Discord community.
How Step By Step plays

- Players can alter forward movement with separate slower and faster controls.
- 02Powerwall Launches
- Special walls send the character away with a large burst of speed.
- 03No Checkpoints
- A failed jump can require climbing back through earlier sections before another attempt.
- 04Online Friend Tools
- Players can watch friends, mark their names, hide non-friends, and customize their characters.
