Our take on Only Up !
The store presentation stresses a huge world filled with secrets and a journey into space, but the central activity is a single uninterrupted climb. With no checkpoints or save function, falling can erase substantial progress rather than simply moving play to another section.
What is Only Up !?
Only Up !
follows Jacky, a teenager attempting to climb from a junkyard toward space. The route crosses abandoned favelas, factories, deserts, Japanese cities, an aircraft cemetery, and dinosaur-filled areas. Progress depends on running, jumping, climbing, and vaulting across objects and platforms. Beds placed around the map act as trampolines that can bypass sections of the course. A time-slowing ability provides additional control over movement. The objective is to reach the highest point of the map, but there are no checkpoints and progress cannot be saved. The game also includes speedrunning features, with players able to compare completion times and submit a performance video for leaderboard placement.
How Only Up ! plays

- 04Varied environments
- The ascent passes through locations including abandoned settlements, factories, deserts, Japanese cities, and a plane graveyard.
