Our take on Star Racer
The combat focus adds energy management and hazards to racing, but leaves less room for a driving-only experience. The editor and local multiplayer broaden play beyond standard races, while changing Event Races make conditions less predictable.
What is Star Racer?
Star Racer is a combat racing game with ground and airborne sections.
Races combine speed boosts, gliding, attacks, and hazards such as mines, turrets, ice, and lava. Energy must be divided between increasing speed and healing. Event Races add changing challenges, including avoiding interlopers and hitting targets. A track editor lets players make circuits, place hazards, upload their tracks, and browse creations from other players. Local split-screen supports up to 4 players. Music includes tracks by Mason Lieberman and Jules Conroy, with Grant Kirkhope composing music for select tracks. The game draws on retro racing classics and places races across pavement, skies, and space-themed courses.
