Our take on Star Phoenix
The store presentation foregrounds cross-platform multiplayer, but multiplayer is not currently available. The present offering is a 3-level VR campaign with solo exploration, combat, quests, and progression, while Arcade Mode is also still planned.
What is Star Phoenix?
Star Phoenix is a VR first-person RPG shooter set aboard a derelict spaceship.
Players investigate the vessel’s fate, search for weapons and items, improve equipment, develop character stats, follow story quests, and fight enemies and bosses. The game currently contains 3 levels, including one procedurally generated level. Weapons have different benefits and drawbacks, while a shop supports buying and selling equipment during missions through a pocket portal. Movement can use teleportation or controller-based motion. The game supports HTC Vive and Oculus Rift with Touch controllers and requires full motion controller support. Multiplayer and Arcade Mode are listed as planned additions rather than current modes.
How Star Phoenix plays
- 01Weapon progression
- Collected weapons can receive upgrades, and rare variants provide different equipment options.
- 02Character development
- Leveling and character statistics are included alongside item descriptions and displayed damage values.
- 03Procedural level
- The second of the 3 current levels is generated procedurally.
- 04Mission item access
- A pocket portal permits buying and selling weapons and items partway through missions.
- 05Two movement options
- Players can choose teleportation or controller-based movement through supported VR hardware.
- 06Story quests
- Quests contribute to the narrative about the ship, its inhabitants, and the search for a habitable planet.
