Our take on RuneSage

RuneSage trades combat pressure for exploration at the player's pace. That choice supports rune puzzles, environmental discovery, and a gentler journey, but leaves little room for players who expect enemy encounters, danger, or action-focused progression.

What is RuneSage?

RuneSage is a virtual-reality RPG adventure set in an open world after a storm shatters the crystals protecting the land.

The main quest involves finding the lost crystals and restoring them before another storm arrives. Exploration covers forests, lakes, caves, a ruined castle, and dungeons across 20 biomes, with more than 80 items to locate. NPCs offer over 40 quests, while rune combinations produce more than 35 spells for solving environmental puzzles. Players draw rune shapes with motion controllers, then cast spells through hand movements. The game supports room-scale play, seated play, teleportation, trackpad or thumbstick movement, armswing locomotion, and several rotation methods. It is available for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift with Touch controllers.

RuneSage compared to similar games

Ghost of a Tale is an action-RPG centered on stealth, disguises, and conversations in a medieval animal world, while RuneSage focuses on VR exploration, rune-based spellcasting, and environmental puzzles. RuneSage also offers several room-scale and artificial locomotion options, which are not described for Ghost of a Tale.
