Our take on Star Merchant
The likely bounce point is the financial loop: players must balance purchases, upgrades, investments, and combat costs while pursuing a goal they define themselves. Those wanting a clear campaign objective may hit a wall when the game leaves the end target to them.
What is Star Merchant?
Star Merchant is a galactic trading simulation about buying and selling goods between planets while managing money.
Each game creates a different universe and item selection, with demand changing during play. Players choose one of four starting ships, set the game length, upgrade weapons, cargo capacity, passenger space, and fuel storage, then buy new ships or carry passengers. Space travel includes battles against four pirate clans, with several combat approaches available, including using a newly purchased weapon, sacrificing ships, or risking hull strength with Suicide Volley.
The game also includes investments in company stocks and funds, bank savings, rogue traders, bonuses, and visits to a Galactic Casino. Progress centers on trading, ship decisions, combat choices, and pursuing a personal goal without going broke.
