Our take on STAR-BOX: RPG Adventures in Space
The defining structure is a single-life Ironman mode layered onto an otherwise open-ended space sandbox, where escape pods matter after ship destruction.
What is STAR-BOX: RPG Adventures in Space?
STAR-BOX is a retro-styled RPG set in an open-ended space universe.
Players choose a gender, starting vessel, and founding company, then explore alien worlds, abandoned cities, stations, ships, and parallel dimensions. Missions include hunting creatures, visiting ancient shrines, boarding stations, salvaging equipment, and confronting undead. Ground combat uses weapons, armour, grenades, and mechanical allies, while ship battles take place from the bridge through ordered attacks, shield management, and boarding actions. Players can fly 19 vessels, hire crew, join groups such as Oberon Bounties or Earth Military, or pursue the optional political storyline. Dynamic events can occur during exploration. Ironman Mode gives the character a single life, making escape pods and decisions central to that mode.
How STAR-BOX: RPG Adventures in Space plays
- 01Open Space Sandbox
- Exploration ranges across alien locations, abandoned facilities, derelict ships, and alternate dimensions without requiring the main storyline.
- 02Ship Capture Combat
- Bridge battles use crew abilities, weapon ranges, shield control, engine disabling, and boarding to seize or destroy opposing vessels.
- 03Mechanical Allies
- Up to five allied mechs can fight alongside the player, with upgrades available for their combat roles.
- 04Ironman Mode
- This optional mode allows only one life, making escape pods relevant after a ship is destroyed.
- 05Faction Missions
- Players can work with bounty hunters, collectors, the military, or Cicero instead of following an independent path.
