Our take on Staffer Retro : A Supernatural Mystery Quest
The document-focused investigation makes evidence organization central to progression, but it leaves less room for action-oriented play. The six-Act structure and 11 endings add branching outcomes while requiring attention to dialogue, exploration, and recorded clues.
What is Staffer Retro : A Supernatural Mystery Quest?
Staffer Retro is a mystery adventure set in an island town where supernatural powers and mysterious tools called STAFF shape the past.
Verita Retro, an ordinary girl who resides in the second-hand store Shop Retro, becomes involved after falling under considerable debt. Dialogue and exploration provide information and documents, while a document-based system asks players to sort six document types and connect clues. More than 40 kinds of documents contain over 100 clues about supernatural events and the rules behind them.
The story spans six episodes, called Acts, with 11 possible endings. Choices and logic determine how Verita acts and which conclusion follows. Main-story scenes feature more than 20 voiced characters, performed by at least 17 Japanese voice actors, alongside animated character illustrations and cutscenes.
