Our take on A Case of Fraud
The defining structure is that the complete evidence set is placed in the player’s hands at the outset, making interpretation and cross-referencing the central investigation mechanic.
What is A Case of Fraud?
This brief, branching mystery follows the disappearance of Zoolingo’s CEO after the startup secures substantial investor backing.
With only a small collection of surviving records, players study the material, link details, identify relatives and staff, and develop explanations involving motive and opportunity. Advancement depends on interpreting evidence and building deductions rather than locating concealed items. The investigation also covers the employees’ pets. Visuals were created by hand with Procreate on a sixth-generation iPad, using a first-generation Apple Pencil.
How A Case of Fraud plays
- 01Non-linear investigation
- Evidence can be examined through different investigative threads, with progress based on forming connections between clues.
- 02Document-based deduction
- All case materials are supplied during the game, so solving depends on interpreting written evidence rather than finding concealed items.
- 03Identity reconstruction
- The investigation includes determining who family members and employees are and what roles they hold.
- 04Pet companion clues
- The case includes deductions about the animal companions belonging to the employees.
