Our take on Sqroma
Rather than treating failure as a reset, the game makes destruction part of the puzzle structure. A death can remove a projectile while leaving the stage changed, turning a normally negative event into a way to create a route toward the exit.
What is Sqroma?
Sqroma is a colorful puzzle game with 69 handmade levels, each focused on finding an exit.
Players collect colors that let them pass through matching objects, including enemies, bullets, mines, and doors. Destruction is part of the puzzle: when a projectile destroys the player, that projectile is removed and the player instantly respawns. The level does not reset after a death, so the changed state can affect later attempts. Many levels have multiple solutions, including a direct route and less conventional approaches. The game includes 42 optional challenges, time records for every level, unlimited lives, no time limit, adjustable slow motion, a color-blind mode, and a hint system. Challenges are not required to reach the end.
How Sqroma plays
- 01Color-Based Movement
- Collected colors determine which matching enemies, hazards, doors, and other objects can be passed.
- 02Persistent Death Effects
- A projectile that destroys the player is removed, while the level remains changed after the instant respawn.
- 03Multiple Puzzle Routes
- Many stages support different solutions, including direct paths and less conventional methods.
- 04Optional Challenges
- The game contains 42 challenges that are not required to reach the ending.
- 05Level Time Records
- Each level has a time record that can be pursued without making completion time-dependent.
- 06Adjustable Slow Motion
- Slow-time settings can be changed for individual levels.
