We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Action-platformer fans who want a weapon that also functions as a movement and puzzle tool
- Players who enjoy surreal game-world stories centered on a non-heroic NPC
- Explorers who prefer maps with hidden areas, secrets, and returning to earlier stages
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a consistently paced platformer may dislike difficulty changes and sudden enemy mutations
- Those wanting predictable combat or item effects may find the randomized inventory outcomes frustrating

Our take on Spear
The defining mechanic is the mouse cursor turned into a spear: one tool handles combat, time control, traversal, and platform creation while Default repairs a corrupted game.
What is Spear?
SPEAR is an action-platformer about Default, a background NPC whose game breaks after the main character is lost.
The mouse cursor becomes a spear that can attack bugs, return to its wielder, slow time, cross gaps, and form platforms. Exploration spans a world map with new levels, hidden areas, and corrupted secrets. Puzzles include unpredictable inventory items, such as potions that can change the character or cause unexpected effects. NPCs with broken quests provide another problem to resolve. Enemy behavior and difficulty can shift during progression: bugs mutate into explosive threats, and returning to earlier stages can bring tougher encounters as the character grows stronger.
How Spear plays
- 01Cursor-Based Spear
- The weapon can damage enemies, return remotely, alter time speed, bridge gaps, and become a temporary platform.
- 02Unpredictable Items
- Inventory consumables can produce varied results, including transformation, flight, or an explosive outcome.
- 03World Map Exploration
- Progression opens additional stages and concealed areas across an increasingly strange game world.
- 04Broken Quest Resolution
- NPCs with malfunctioning quests provide problems for Default to address.
- 05Escalating Glitches
- Mutated enemies can become explosive, while later encounters may grow more difficult even in previously visited stages.
Spear compared to similar games
Sundered: Eldritch Edition is also an action-platformer, but it is described as a chaotic metroidvania with a definitive edition and added content, while SPEAR centers on a cursor-operated spear, broken quests, and unpredictable items. Jusant focuses on climbing tools, stamina management, and a meditative ascent rather than SPEAR's glitch combat and platforming.
