Our take on Skybolt Zack
Rather than using jumping as its central platforming action, the game keeps Zack airborne through enemy-to-enemy rocket punches. Its music-game influence also shifts rhythm control from a fixed beat to player-directed movement.
What is Skybolt Zack?
Skybolt Zack combines platforming with colour matching in a fast-paced arcade game.
Zack moves between enemies with rocket punches, dashes, focus actions and direction changes, but never jumps or touches the ground across 48 levels. Players match enemy colours to gamepad buttons while choosing branching routes with different difficulty levels. The game includes more than 15 environments across 5 worlds and over a dozen robotic enemy types. Story mode is joined by Time Attack and Score Attack modes, with separate worldwide leaderboards for scores and times. Controls are remappable, enemy colours can be customized, and colour-blind options are available. Multiple exits in each level provide alternate routes and additional challenges.
How Skybolt Zack plays
- 01Colour-matched combat
- Enemy colours determine which controller inputs Zack uses for his rocket punches.
- 02Groundless platforming
- All 48 levels can be completed without returning to the ground.
- 03Branching level routes
- Different paths lead to separate exits and vary in difficulty.
- 04Competitive game modes
- Time Attack and Score Attack modes track separate worldwide leaderboards.
- 05Remappable controls
- Players can change the controls, adjust enemy colours and enable colour-blind options.
