Our take on Skirmish Line
Its defining structure is the choice between holding ground and withdrawing: Defense in Depth lets commanders fall back through three positions, while Point Defense removes retreat entirely.
What is Skirmish Line?
Command Allied soldiers in the Pacific Theater during World War II across three modes.
Train and equip a squad, construct trenches, request artillery, improve units, and respond to changing battlefield conditions. Defense in Depth covers three successive positions, with retreats available between them. Point Defense removes fallback positions while allowing advances for terrain and command points. Campaign Mode follows a persistent squad through multiple missions, with increasingly dangerous assignments and upgrades purchased using renown. The game uses an overhead camera, semi-autonomous troops, and heavy randomization. Ribbons and medals grant squad benefits, while rank unlocks special weapons, soldiers, and tactics. Battles include exotic weapons, vehicles, and Banzai charges.
How Skirmish Line plays
- 01Three game modes
- Defense in Depth, Point Defense, and Campaign Mode provide different structures for holding ground, advancing, or managing a squad across missions.

- The campaign carries one squad through multiple assignments while mission pressure and danger increase over time.
- 03Defensive construction
- Commanders can place trenches and use artillery while adapting to changing battlefield conditions.
- 04Progression rewards
- Ribbons, medals, and rank provide squad benefits and access to additional weapons, soldiers, and tactics.
- 05Randomized battles
- Heavy randomization changes encounters involving semi-autonomous units, vehicles, and varied weaponry.
