Our take on Shock Tactics
Rather than limiting the strategy structure to battlefield encounters, the game connects squad combat with exploration, outpost construction, and base upgrades. Its interrupt system also lets enemy sightings break a sprint, shifting movement into a moment for tactical reassessment.
What is Shock Tactics?
Shock Tactics is a single-player, turn-based sci-fi strategy game about exploring a newly discovered alien planet.
Lead a squad against pirates, alien creatures, and Imperial Consortium troops while searching for alien technology. Set up outposts and dig sites, then use alien artifacts to upgrade the base, build weapons and armor, and train soldiers in different abilities. Action Points govern movement, while an interrupt system can stop a sprint when enemies appear so remaining points can be reassigned. The procedurally generated world map creates different strategic situations across sessions, with three environments to explore. A story follows the planet’s secrets and the factions moving toward a final battle.
How Shock Tactics plays
- 01Action Point Movement
- An interrupt can halt a soldier’s sprint when enemies are spotted, leaving time to reconsider how to use remaining points.
- 02Squad Progression
- Artifacts can be used to improve the base, create weapons and armor, and teach soldiers different abilities.
- 03Generated World Map
- The map changes between sessions and includes three environments on Hephæst.
Shock Tactics compared to similar games
Shock Tactics combines squad management, alien-world exploration, and base building with turn-based combat. Shogun Showdown also uses turn-based combat, but its description centers on attack tiles, deck building, and a rogue-like structure.
