Our take on Shape Shifter: Formations
The emphasis falls on extensive skill trees, stacking upgrades, and progression between runs, but the core structure remains a series of short sessions capped at about 30 minutes unless endless mode is selected. That makes the game’s depth primarily build-focused rather than campaign-focused.
What is Shape Shifter: Formations?
Shape Shifter: Formations is a twin-stick action shooter with rogue-lite progression.
Players choose from 20 ships and 20 weapons, each with abilities and an individual skill tree, then combine upgrades during short runs. Defeating enemies grants experience and stacking improvements that can shape attacks, status effects, summons, and other build choices. Runs last around 30 minutes, with an optional endless mode. Enemy swarms lead to boss encounters, while difficulty modifiers alter aspects of each run. Completing challenges unlocks additional ships, weapons, and upgrades. Between runs, permanent progression adds upgrades and new mechanics. The game supports solo play and two-player local co-op, with manual aiming or an optional auto-aim mode.
