Our take on Semblance
The focus on reshaping terrain gives the game a clear puzzle identity, but leaves less room for combat systems or genre variety. Its nonlinear structure also trades guided progression for player-led exploration and returning to unresolved challenges.
What is Semblance?
Semblance is a platformer set in a minimalist world where terrain can be reshaped during play.
Players alter the ground to raise jump points, lower obstacles, pass spikes, and reach collectibles. The game contains three worlds, each showing different effects of a planet that shifts and changes. Players free life essences while investigating the source of a crystalline infection made of hard material. Movement between puzzles is nonlinear, allowing unfinished challenges to be revisited later rather than requiring a fixed solution order. The story is spread across the world, leaving players to assemble its meaning while exploring. Colorful environments, unusual creatures, layered music, and deformable versions of the character define the presentation and puzzle structure.
