Our take on Salammbô: Battle for Carthage
The bounce point arrives when the dark presentation takes over: poisonous fumes, wartime violence, and a perilous journey define the setting. Players seeking a lighter historical adventure may leave at that tonal shift.
What is Salammbô: Battle for Carthage?
Set in the 3rd century BC, this adventure follows Salammbo, daughter of a Carthaginian commander, during conflict involving Carthage, Rome, and mercenaries demanding payment.
Salammbo falls in love with Matho, the mercenary leader besieging the city, while a message must be delivered before it is too late. The journey enters a dark world that includes gardens filled with poisonous fumes and Mount Solitude. A 360-degree panorama presents the setting around the player, accompanied by Dvorak's New World Symphony. Three-dimensional frescoes form a journal of the adventures and provide another view of ancient history. The game draws inspiration from Gustave Flaubert's novel and Philippe Druillet's work.
