Our take on Safelight
Rather than using a conventional combat-led horror structure, Safelight makes photography and a cabin darkroom part of the investigation. Recovering film changes the ship itself by bringing vanished areas back into view, while bright light can attract the entities moving through it.
What is Safelight?
Safelight is a first-person puzzle horror game set aboard a vacant Victorian-themed cruise ship.
Playing as an amateur photographer, the player investigates why passengers and sections of the vessel have disappeared. Exploration combines environmental puzzles with a makeshift darkroom in the cabin, where recovered rolls of film restore missing areas and expose clues about supernatural events. Hostile entities move through the ship and are attracted to bright light, making illumination part of the danger. The game presents somber environments with realistic graphics and ominous sound design. Its interface is deliberately sparse, using a simplified HUD while the player pieces together the mystery through exploration, photography, and puzzle solving.
