We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Action RPG players who want to experiment with loot-based character builds
- Small groups seeking cooperative combat for up to four players
- Players who enjoy crafting, gear collection, and repeatable endgame challenges
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking a story-driven campaign may bounce off the game's stated lack of story.
- Players who dislike repeated build testing and loot optimization may hit a wall when progression centers on equipment abilities, rerolled modifiers, and many character options.
- Players wanting a purely competitive multiplayer game may not find the solo and cooperative structure suitable.
- Players unwilling to risk permanent character loss should avoid Hardcore mode.
Our take on Rune Knights
The bounce point arrives when build experimentation becomes central: players must connect skill trees, item-granted abilities, crafting changes, and loot drops. Hardcore players face a sharper wall when a character is permanently deleted after death.
What is Rune Knights?
Rune Knights is a third-person cooperative action RPG built around character customization, crafting, loot, and combat.
Players choose and mix classes, develop characters through 11 skill trees, and configure talents, skills, gear abilities, and Super abilities. Weapons and armor can be upgraded, modified, and rerolled with crafting items. Levels combine procedural generation with handcrafted areas and include more than 60 enemy types, 15 bosses, and 15 Elite enemies. Solo play works offline, while online groups can include up to four players. Endgame activities include customizable-difficulty Crusades, Raid bosses, and an Infinite Arena with escalating enemy waves. Players can also recruit customizable AI companions, trade items and currency, and choose a Hardcore mode with permanent character deletion on death.
