Rather than treating its protagonist as a conventional hero fighting distant villains, the game places Spiritia against her own magician organization and closest friends. Its stage progression also ties new abilities to boss victories, making defeated rivals part of the character’s growing toolkit.

Defeating bosses can grant new magical abilities, and bosses have particular vulnerabilities to exploit. Spiritia manages vitality, mana, extra lives, and recovery items during play. Bonus Mode becomes available after certain conditions are met. Progress is recorded through passwords, while replay files can save completed stages or full playthroughs. Additional codes activate Easy Mode, a new mode after completing Rosenkreuzstilette Grollschwert, and a special Schwer-Muta stage; some codes or modes disable replay functionality.
