Our take on Roots of Harmony
The game trades direct combat control for pre-battle planning: once a fight starts, units act without further player input. Its ASCII presentation also leaves visual detail behind in favor of a text-focused interface.
What is Roots of Harmony?
Lead a colony across a procedurally varied island in a turn-based, text-based 4X strategy game.
Choose one of 12 doctrines, then manage resources, doctrines, disciples, buildings, production chains, and relationships with rival tribes. Exploration includes special locations, mines, plantations, trading posts, shipyards, dungeons, and altars. Random victory conditions shape each campaign, while procedural units and encounters change the challenges from island to island. Battles use an auto-battler system: before combat, select options such as melee or ranged fighting, frontline or rear positions, and blessings. Three modes are available: Standard, New Game+, and Challenges. ASCII graphics accompany the game’s text-focused presentation.
