We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- RPG players who want cooperative expeditions with friends
- Roguelike fans who accept losing carried equipment after death
- Players who enjoy gathering, crafting, and experimenting with weapon variants
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking uninterrupted character progression may dislike losing weapons, armor, and carried loot on death
- Those wanting a fixed, predictable world may find procedurally generated planets and repeated character deaths demanding
- Solo players may not fit the game's emphasis on Combat Squads and multiplayer play
Our take on Roguelands
The permanent-death structure gives expeditions meaningful risk, but sacrifices the security of keeping equipment and loot carried by a fallen character. Progress stored on the ship remains, while each new run can require rebuilding the active loadout.
What is Roguelands?
Play as a Galactic Cadet traveling with a Combat Squad across procedurally generated planets.
Explore hostile environments, battle creatures, gather ores and vegetation, and command specialized Droids to collect materials or fight. Resources can be turned into Emblems and combined at the Gear Forge to create equipment. Death removes the weapons, armor, and loot carried by the current character, while items stored on the ship remain available to future characters. Repeated deaths also unlock races, variants, augments, starting uniforms, ship upgrades, and saved NPCs. Characters can equip up to five Combat Chips, which provide passive effects or abilities such as teleportation. Saving NPCs reveals more of the galaxy’s history.

- 03Persistent Ship Progress

- Ten pieces of a loot type can become an Emblem, and three Emblems can be combined into new gear.
- 05Combat Chip Loadouts
- A cadet can carry up to five Chips that add passive buffs or active abilities.
