Is Ring of Pain worth it for you?
We tell you who should skip it, too.
Play it if you…
Good fit- Roguelike players who want turn-based decisions with visible enemy actions
- Strategy players who enjoy building gear combinations within a 15-slot inventory
- Streamers whose viewers want to vote on item choices or submit moderated artwork
Skip it if you…
Saves you a refund- Players seeking real-time combat may bounce off the turn-based movement and decision cycle.
- Players who prefer a fixed sequence of encounters may find randomly generated ring dungeons too variable.
- Players who dislike managing limited inventory space may hit a wall when combining gear within 15 slots.
- Players looking for large-scale military strategy may find the dungeon-focused scope too narrow.
Our take on Ring of Pain
The bounce point arrives when positioning and route planning become central to survival. Players who prefer reacting after an attack, rather than reading creature actions and choosing each ring step carefully, may hit a wall when an ambush or a poor route leaves them overwhelmed.
What is Ring of Pain?
Ring of Pain is a turn-based roguelike card crawler set in randomly generated ring dungeons.
Encounters come toward the player, making each step a choice between combat, stealth, loot, or retreat. Creatures reveal their actions, so route planning and positioning matter before a move. Gear can be bought or scavenged, then combined in a 15-slot inventory to create builds with passive powers. The game includes 16 core path dungeons, 2 branching endings, 25+ special dungeons, 4 environment regions, 50+ creatures, and 300+ items. Medium and Hard modes, a Daily Dungeon with 40+ modifiers, and cryptic rhyming lore add further challenges and places to explore.
How Ring of Pain plays
- 01Ring Dungeon Routes
- Randomly generated paths present encounters, loot, friends, and threats as the player moves around each ring.
- 02Visible Enemy Actions
- Creatures reveal what they are about to do, allowing positioning and route decisions before the next turn.
- 03Gear Combinations
- A 15-slot inventory holds items that can be combined into builds with passive powers.
- 04Daily Dungeon Mode
- The unlocked mode uses 40+ modifiers to vary dungeon challenges.
- 05Twitch Viewer Choices
- A Twitch extension lets viewers vote on item selections and submit replacement creature or item drawings, which the streamer or moderators can moderate.
Ring of Pain compared to similar games
Shogun Showdown also uses turn-based roguelike combat, but focuses on positioning attacks, upgrading attack tiles, combining them into combos, and building a deck before facing the Shogun. Ring of Pain centers on ring-shaped dungeon routes, visible creature actions, gear, and branching paths. Men of War: Assault Squad and Xenonauts focus on commanding military units or squads in war settings rather than individual roguelike dungeon decisions.
