Our take on Rime Berta
The bounce point is the layered unit-building system: players who do not want to manage class strengths, swap learned skills, and plan promotion paths may hit a wall before the tower's tactical encounters become the main challenge.
What is Rime Berta?
Rime Berta is a Japanese tactical RPG about Livia, whose diseased village may be saved by an artifact hidden inside a mystical tower.
Players command sentient puppet units across grid-based battlefields with varying elevation. Combat includes single-target and area attacks, class strengths and weaknesses, environmental positioning, and reaction skills that trigger during enemy turns when set conditions occur. Units gain skills through combat, and players can swap abilities to suit different tactics. Classes can also develop into hybrid roles through promotion trees, adding new spells and skills. The campaign follows Livia's expedition through the tower as players assemble and direct a customized battalion.
How Rime Berta plays

- 03Class promotion trees
- Characters may advance into hybrid roles that provide additional spells and abilities.
- 04Swappable unit skills
- Abilities learned through combat can be exchanged to match a chosen battle plan.
Rime Berta compared to similar games
Shogun Showdown also uses turn-based combat, but centers on upgrading attack tiles, combining attacks, and building a deck before confronting the Shogun. Rime Berta instead focuses on grid movement, elevation, unit classes, conditional reactions, and class promotion trees. Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew uses real-time stealth strategy, while Rime Berta structures battles around turns and tactical unit development.
